Patio Season

If you are anything like the BBS team, we are feeling the frost begin to melt into full fledge springtime.

When we catch that first glimmer of springtime ensconced in sunshine we take great delight in knowing that patio season is finally here. We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief that winter will be dormant for the months ahead.

Patio season signals the fresh start for new beers, new laughs, and new adventures. It means that bodies of water will be calling our name while filling coolers with beers and snacks. The cold hard stress of winter is finally receding.

With that you can find us languidly draped on a deck railing with the sunshine on our faces, sunglasses on, hats pulled tight, and the glass of frosty beer just about to cross our lips.

Cheers to patio season that rapidly morphs into floating season!

Sweet Summertime Is Coming

That smell and taste of sweet summertime is so close.

What does summer mean to us?

It means longer days with family and friends, it means cookouts on the deck, it means fireflies in the backyard, it means sunkissed faces, it means boat happy hours, it means a lot of things, but most importantly it means the slowing down of time to enjoy the little things surrounding us.

We are more than ready to enjoy some breakfast beers down by the lake without a worry in the world.

It's high time for some rest, relaxation, and new tan lines.

A big almost summertime cheers from us here at BBS to you!

What Makes a Breakfast Beer?

So glad you asked...

A Pilsner or an IPA before 11 AM with an omelette or a biscuit? A Shandy at 4 PM? A citrus infused seltzer regardless of time of day? Yes, all qualify, some more aggressive than others. What about with an English muffin?  Hell naw!

Does it have to do with time of day?  Sometimes.  Do food pairings matter?  They could. Inclusion of fruit/fruit “juice?”  Absolutely.

You see, the breakfast beer is almost a state of mind. It's what you feel the most comfortable cracking open, hearing that satisfying sound, and tasting that first cold sip to start your day.

Your choice from the beer fridge is a highly personal one. Do not take it lightly. Take your time in making your decision on how you want to start your day. Some may choose to ease into their day with something light and refreshing, others may choose a coffee stout to mask the lack of real coffee, and then there are those that choose to jump full speed ahead into their day with utter abandon. Whatever you choose, we will support. We may judge you, but we won't tell you no.

We are here to guide you towards stocking your fridge with the best possible options to choose from when making that heavy, early morning choice (or afternoon) of what beer to grab.

The bottom line: If it’s breakfast time for you and you’re drinking a beer, then you’re having a breakfast beer.

Meet the Team

If you haven't taken the time to scope out our About Us page, then allow me to give you a few minutes to click that hyperlink and check us out.

Now that you are back, are you ready for the expanded TL;DR version? Is that a million little yeses being shouted from the rooftops?

Oh good, then sit right down and get ready to read a little story about how BBS started and who we are.

Let me begin by saying there are 7 of us and we span a 10 year age group. What does that mean and why is it important? It's important because that means we have all had our fair share of time to test beers and hone our skills that led us to sommelier status.

We don't take our status lightly. We know that by being sommeliers we are here to test, assess, recommend, and be your sounding board.

We all grew up in the South and know how to mind our families, respect our elders, and support our friends, which means we have the perfect makeup to be your trusted team of sommeliers.

Our tenured status of beer drinking, whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner, or the full day rodeo, we have tasted a lot of beers. Some were amazing, some were terrible, some were forgettable, and some we wish we could forget.

As your sommeliers we will be sure to steer you towards the optimal breakfast beer. If you've got a beer you think we should feature, drop us a note.

Follow us on Instagram and tag us in your posts.

Subscribe to our posts. We promise not to spam you. That's a lie. We will spam you with the best content on the entire internet.

The blue checkmark is imminent

Yep, it's been a strong first week for all of us here at Breakfast Beer Sommeliers as we seek to inform the world about our specialty, the breakfast beer.

Where do we start?

First, high fives (or perhaps Shandy's) all around for 74 followers on INSTAGRAM!!!  Congrats to all of you for being early adopters - much like the Winklevoss twins, you were here first.

We know you've enjoyed the first week of content as the LPM's (Likes Per Minute) have been coming at a rate that would make any 11th grader jealous.  And speaking of blue checks, we got a like from one ON OUR FIFTH POST, hat tip to our friends in St. Louis - @budlight.

Perhaps the most amazing realization we've come to so early into this endeavor is the appetite thirst (see what I did there?) for our knowledge and content.  The gram is full of pages devoted to single brands or styles of beers or seltzers (even a "Seltzer Sommelier"), but there is an obvious void in the breakfast beer space.  There will be more on this at a later date, but this needs to be made clear: not every seltzer is a breakfast beer.  That said there are many beers and seltzers in our sector that have quite a loyal following, and we've loved meeting you all.  White Claw, we've got to give it to you, you have a following of dudes, boyz, moms, baddies (presumably baddies=hot chicks) even a nation.  So while you risk outgrowing your britches, consider this much deserved credit- we were there with you early and appreciate the inspiration.  HighNoon, kudos to you and the platoon for coming on strong.  Still confused about what exactly your hashtag, #nooners, means, but we love it and you.

So, as we anxiously await our blue check, hang on and enjoy the ride and a breakfast beer.

It Begins

What started as a joke name in a group text message turned into a full blown frenzy with an instagram handle, a blog, and the talks of a podcast and merch.

In one weekend, really one day, we rallied around our assortment of Yeti coolers and passed back and forth (pre-COVID, of course) open seltzers claiming to have found the new Number 1.

To back up a touch and offer some insight into BBS, first, many years ago, there was Miller Chill, next BudLight Lime, and then two summers ago we fell down the White Claw rabbit hole (straying occasionally toward Summer Shandy) and never looked back. After a few hangovers, that we affectionately called getting clawed, solely because of White Claw we knew that we had found our summer beverage.

As summer faded into fall we fell back into our old habits of local beers, wine, and the occasional White Claw. Summer 2019 is when I personally deem the beginning of our sommelier-ness. We tried dozens of seltzers, shandy's, and breakfast IPAs. Some were great, some were okay, and some were downright undrinkable - looking at you Crook & Marker.

Now it is the Summer of 2020 and we've got stories to tell, beverages to test, and ::fingers crossed:: a following to entertain.

We ask you to sit back, crack a cold breakfast beer, and let the sommeliers guide you to your new favorite cold adult beverage.

*Full disclosure: we base our judgement, opinions, and cold hard facts solely on years of experience in search of the perfect day long drinkability.
